Syria Army Recaptures Key District in Homs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies pressed ahead with their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) in Homs, liberating a major area from the terrorists’ grip in the central province.

Syrian forces made fresh gains in their fight against Daesh in eastern outskirts of Homs and recaptured al-Kallabiyeh district in al-Bayarat area, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported on Friday.

Later, the army troops advanced toward south of al-Bayarat, some 20 kilometers to the west of the ancient city of Palmyra.

In a separate development, the Syrian government forces targeted the positions of Jabhat Faeh al-Sham (former known as al-Nusra Front) in the area of al-Karkat in the west-central province of Hama, leaving scores of them dead and injured.

Additionally, the Arab country’s warplanes hit the gathering centers of the al-Nusra Front’s militants in al-Taman’a town, Idlib province, killing several high profile terrorists.

Also, 15 Daesh terrorists were killed by the Syrian troops in the western province of Deir ez-Zor.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
