Syria Army Retakes More Areas in Al-Bab
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their fight against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in al-Bab, seizing control of three more areas in the northern city.
On Sunday, Syrian forces stepped up their attacks on Daesh terrorists in northeastern suburbs of Aleppo, and managed to retake the areas of Tadef, Nabat al-Sagheera and Nabat al-Kabeera in al-Bab.
Large groups of the terrorists were killed in the clashes. The Syrian government forces are now busy defusing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by the militants.
The recapture of the districts came two days after the army managed to wrest control over the villages of Shanhasa, al-Shami, Rweidet, Rasm al-Harmal, Tabbaret Madi, al-Mazboureh, Rasm al-Khabbaz, Rasm al-Sheeh, al-Manazer, Um Kharzeh, Abu Jabbar, al-Qiteh, Qassr al-Breij, al-Jadideh, Khirbet al-Mansoura, al-Mazroufa, Mistarihet Miri, Khirbet Kabbar and Fikha, and al-Hawara on the outskirts of Aleppo.
The latest achievement reaffirmed the Syrian military’s might and prowess to fully liberate al-Bab from the terrorists after retaking the city of Aleppo.
On December 15, Syria announced the liberation of Aleppo, with President Bashar al-Assad praising the victory as “history in the making and worthy of more than the word ‘congratulations’.”
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
