Syria Army Targets Terrorists’ Positions in Dara’a, Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Militants from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) suffered major losses in Dara’a after Syria’s army and its allies targeted their gathering centers in the country’s southwestern province.

Syrian forces launched separate operations against the positions of al-Nusra terrorists in the districts of al-Manshiyeh and al-Karak in the city of Dara’a al-Balad, inflicting heavy losses upon them in arms and personnel, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

A major offensive by the terrorists was also foiled by the army in the province in which scores of the terrorists lost their lives, the report added.

In a separate development, 14 Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) militants were killed by the Arab country’s military forces in the areas of Hwaiqa and al-Sina’a in the western province of Deir ez-Zor.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
