Iran Urges Anti-Terror Cooperation with Georgia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for closer cooperation with neighboring Georgia in the fight against terrorism.

In a meeting with the visiting Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, in Tehran on Saturday, President Rouhani stressed the need for close interaction between Tehran and Tbilisi for “countering and uprooting” terrorism, a big trouble that has plagued the region.

The Iranian president also highlighted the numerous grounds for economic, trade, cultural, and academic relations between the two countries, calling for efforts to boost collaboration between the private sectors of the two nations.

Pointing to Iran and Georgia’s perfect position in the region, Rouhani said Iran can link Georgia to the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Indian Ocean, while Georgia can reciprocally facilitate Iran’s access to the Black Sea.

For his part, the visiting Georgian prime minister expressed Tbilisi’s willingness for the expansion of relations with Iran in all fields.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Kvirikashvili paid a visit to Tehran for political and economic negotiations.
