Yemeni Forces Fire Homegrown Ballistic Missile at Saudi Troops

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and Popular Committees fired a homegrown ballistic missile dubbed “Zelzal-2” at a gathering of Saudi troops in the kingdom’s Asir region in retaliation for the continued massacre of civilians by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

The missile command of the Yemeni army fired the ballistic missile at Saudi positions in the al-Alab border crossing of Asir region, local reports said on Sunday.

In another development, the Yemeni forces repelled a massive attack by the mercenaries of the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh, in the southwestern parts of Taiz, the Arabic-language Al Mayadeen reported.

During the operation, the Yemeni army managed to kill and injure dozens of the mercenaries and destroy four of their armed vehicles, according to the report.

The forces of the Arabian Peninsula country have already hit Saudi positions with various homegrown missiles, including “Qaher-1”, which has a range of 500 kilometers, and “Borkan-1”.

The solid propellant and Scud-type Borkan-1 missile reportedly has a range of more than 800 kilometers.

Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi.

According to Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development, the Saudi campaign has claimed the lives of over 12,000 Yemenis and left more than 20,000 others wounded.
