Iran Presidential Candidate Pledges Cooperation with Judiciary against Corruption

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim, one of the four candidates running for presidency in Iran, said he would work in close cooperation with the Judiciary after taking the office in order to stamp out corruption.

Explicating his plans at a televised program on Wednesday night, Mirsalim said that should he win the election, he would closely interact with the Judiciary to persuade the judicial system to take decisive action against bribes offered by administrative officials.

He also pledged efforts in coordination with the Judiciary to crack down on collusion.

As regards approaches to fix the economy, Mirsalim said monetary assets must be spent on domestic production to help the country recover from recession without a risk of devastating inflation.

The candidate also described plans to construct inexpensive housing for low-income families as one of his priorities after taking the office.

Mirsalim, 70, is running for presidency along with three other candidates, namely incumbent President Hassan Rouhani, Ebrahim Raisi, and Mostafa Hashemitaba.

Election campaigning drew to a close on Thursday morning, 24 hours before polls open, according to the law.

Authorities say the number of eligible voters in the Friday elections stands at more than 56,400,000.

A run-off would be held a week later if none of the candidates wins a majority, which is at least 50 percent plus one vote.
