Tehran Terrorist Attackers Identified

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said perpetrators of the Wednesday terrorist attacks on the parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in Tehran have been identified.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said it will soon release the names and pictures of the gunmen involved in the terrorist attacks, all of whom were killed on Wednesday.

The death toll from Wednesday's incidents in Tehran grew to 17, while more than 40 others have been wounded.

On Wednesday morning, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Iran’s parliament building in downtown Tehran and on the mausoleum of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

Armed assailants, dressed as women, attacked the parliament buildings in the morning. Equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, handguns and suicide vests, the gunmen killed security guards and ordinary people before holding people hostage in the upper floors of the building.

Security forces laid a siege to the parliament for several hours. Three of the gunmen were shot dead in an exchange of gunfire, while the other blew himself up.

In the other attack at the shrine of Imam Khomeini, one suicide bomber blew himself up while the second one was killed in a gunfight.
