President Rouhani Calls for Closer Iran-Thailand Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reiterated the country’s willingness to promote relations with Thailand in all areas.
Speaking at a meeting with Thailand’s new ambassador to Iran on Tuesday, President Rouhani said, “I hope that we will witness closer ties between the two nations of Iran and Thailand through making use of all capacities”.
Iran and Thailand have signed good agreements to develop and deepen their cooperation in all areas particularly in energy, industry and agriculture, he added.
The Iranian president further said that implementation of the deals could help further improve the two countries' bilateral relations following the 2015 nuclear agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Tehran and six world powers and the ensuing removal of sanctions.
The Thai envoy, for his part, presented his letter of credence to President Rouhani and said, “The JCPOA has opened up new opportunities for the two countries to enhance their ties”.
Thailand is willing to boost cooperation with Iran in all fields, particularly in energy, trade, agriculture and food products and tourism, he added.
Describing Tehran-Bangkok relations as close and friendly, the ambassador hoped that a preferential trade agreement (PTA) slated to be signed between the two nations soon will lead to further enhancement of bilateral trade and economic ties.
