Yemeni Army Shells Saudi-Backed Positions in Najran, Jizan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and popular committees shelled the positions of Saudi-backed mercenaries in the kingdom’s southwestern border regions of Najran and Jizan as part of retaliatory bids against the Saudi regime’s military campaign.

On Sunday, Yemeni forces targeted the gathering centers of the militants with mortar rounds in the areas of al-Adadih and Al Tawel in Jizan, inflicting major losses on them, Yemen’s official Saba news agency reported.

In a separate development, the Arab country’s army troops fired several Katyusha rockets at the militants’ military sites in al-Azah and Ras al-Makhrawq in Najran, the report added.

An unspecified number of the Saudi-backed militiamen were reportedly killed and injured in the attack.

The attacks by the Yemeni forces were carried out in retaliation for the continued massacre of civilians by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former president.

According to Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development, the Saudi campaign has claimed the lives of over 12,000 Yemenis and left more than 20,000 others wounded.
