Iran’s FM Hails Lebanon’s Gains in War on Terror in Arsal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised the recent victories achieved by the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah against Takfiri militants near the border town of Arsal as the result of unity among the Lebanese forces.

The victories against terrorists in Syria-Lebanon border are an outcome of unity and solidarity among all Lebanese forces, which could be an example to the entire Islamic world that unity and rapport leads to great triumph, Zarif said in a meeting with a group of Lebanese lawmakers, held in Tehran on Tuesday.

The visiting MPs were members of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, one of Hezbollah's political wings in the Lebanese parliament.

Elsewhere in the meeting, Zarif deplored an escalation of Israeli violence against Palestinians in the city of al-Quds, stressing that if the Muslim world abandons disagreements and exercises rapport and unity, the Zionist regime will never dare to commit such crimes.

The Iranian foreign minister and the Lebanese MPs also discussed Tehran-Beirut relations and the latest regional and international developments.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement said its battle to eliminate members of the foreign-sponsored and Takfiri Jabhat Fatah al-Sham – previously known as the Nusra Front – militant group from the Syria-Lebanon border was 85 percent complete as it continues its campaign to take their last remaining footholds on the frontier.

The resistance fighters have also regained control over Komail plains as well as Hamoudi, Baidar and Shoabat al-Nihla areas on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, located 124 kilometers northeast of the capital Beirut, Press TV quoted Hezbollah’s media bureau as reporting.
