Zarif to Represent Iran at OIC Meeting on Quds

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif plan to pay a visit to Turkish city of Istanbul on Tuesday to attend an emergency meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation on ongoing developments in the holy city of Quds (Jerusalem).

The announcement was made by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Monday.

The occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed new tensions ever since Israeli forces introduced restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015.

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the ongoing tensions since the beginning of October 2015.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qassemi underlined Iran’s stance about the importance of the issue of Palestine, saying that “Palestine is the top issue of the Muslim world” regardless of existing disagreements among Muslim states.

The Palestinian issue would only be settled by reinforcing unity among Muslim countries and exerting more pressure on the Israeli regime, he added.
