DM: Iran Working on Heavy Fighter Jets

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami unveiled plans for manufacturing heavy fighter jets inside the country.

Production of heavy warplanes is on the agenda of the Defense Ministry, General Hatami said in a TV talk show on Monday night, saying preparations for the production of such a homegrown airplane have been made and the initial studies have been carried out.

Iran must push to gain a “strategic air force”, he underlined.

The minister further highlighted the country’s progress in manufacturing air defense gear, saying Bavar-373 long-range air defense missile system, designed and manufactured by Iranian experts, is more than 85 percent complete.

Bavar-373 is even more advanced than the Russian-made S-300 air defense system, he added.

General Hatami further reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to boosting Iran’s missile capabilities and defense power.

The enemies are aware of the range, accuracy and destructive power of the Iranian missiles, he noted.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Air Defense unveiled four homegrown systems for civil and military applications.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including air defense systems that use innovative technologies.
