BRICS Leaders Urge ‘Full’ JCPOA Implementation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The heads of state of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which constitute the BRICS group, called for the “full” and “effective” implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

"We firmly support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue and call upon all relevant parties to comply fully with their obligations and ensure full and effective implementation of the JCPOA to promote international and regional peace and stability," BRICS leaders said in a declaration on Monday.

China is hosting the BRICS summit in the eastern coastal city of Xiamen on September 3-5.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

US President Donald Trump has called the agreement “the worst deal ever” and repeatedly threatened to scrap it.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
