Syrian Envoy Sees Bright Future for Ties with Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s ambassador to Beirut gave an upbeat assessment of his country’s political and economic relations with Lebanon, a sign of which he said was the participation of a Lebanese delegation in the Damascus International Fair last month.

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, Ali Abdul-Karim Ali said Syria and Lebanon enjoy deep historic relations, adding that the common challenges would make them promote cooperation in the political and economic fields and in the fight against terrorism.

Syria and Lebanon would launch closer cooperation in the near future, the ambassador added.

He also described las month’s international exhibition in Damascus as a sign that Syria has overcome terrorism and is taking the path to reconstruction and progress in the new era.

In August, Syria held the 59th edition of Damascus International Fair at a venue a few kilometers away from the rebel-held eastern suburbs of Damascus.

The event, attended by 43 countries, was hailed by many experts as a sign of success for Syrian President Bashar Assad to restore business confidence following significant military gains in the fight against terrorist groups over the past months.
