Iran Offers Technical Help for Nigeria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s president highlighted the great potential for cooperation with Nigeria in various fields, saying Iranian companies are ready to work on development projects in the African country.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide Nigeria with technical and engineering services in various sectors such as road construction, energy and power generation,” President Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with Nigeria’s new ambassador to Tehran on Saturday.

Voicing Tehran’s willingness to promote academic, cultural and economic relations with Abuja, the president said enhancement of ties with Nigeria, a “friend and Muslim” nation, is a priority in Iran’s foreign policy agenda.

For his part, the incoming envoy expressed his country’s enthusiasm for broader cooperation with Iran in all arenas.

In July 2016, during a visit to Abuja, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for efforts to establish stronger relations with Nigeria within the framework of international organizations, including the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the group of Eight Developing Islamic Countries (D8) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
