Trump’s JCPOA Stance Proves US Non- Commitment to Any Int’l Deal: Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said US President Donald Trump’s approach toward the 2015 international nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), proves that Washington is not committed to its international obligations.

“Tramp recently stated that Iran is not committed to the agreement (JCPOA), while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has officially confirmed Iran’s compliance (with the deal) eight times,” Larijani said on Saturday.

He made the remarks in an address to the 137th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the theme “Promoting Cultural Pluralism and Peace through Inter-faith and Inter-ethnic Dialogue”.

“And in its recent report, two days ago after Trump’s speech, the IAEA reiterated that Iran had adhered to all the international regulations of the agency,” the parliament speaker noted.

“It seems that Trump is not committed to international agreements and has no respect for the United Nations,” Larijani said, adding that Trump demonstrated to all countries that the US government does not adhere to any undertakings.

Speaking from the White House on Friday, Trump said he will choose not to certify that Tehran is complying with the JCPOA.

He also said that the new policy is aimed at preventing what he claimed to be Iran’s effort to obtain a nuclear weapon.

In response, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani blasted the anti-Iran comments made by the US president, reiterating that the Iranian nation will not surrender to such “false statements and hate speech”.
