Iran’s Account of ‘Rouhani-Trump Meeting’ False, White House Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A White House official described an account given by Tehran that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani turned down a meeting with President Donald Trump during his visit to New York as “false”.

The White House on Sunday told The Hill that the Iranian official’s account “is false.”

However, the White House official did not say what the “true” account of it was.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Sunday that President Rouhani had rejected a meeting requested by Trump while in New York for the 72nd UN General Assembly.

“Such a meeting was suggested by the American side, but was not accepted by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani,” Qassemi said.

Rouhani delivered a speech and participated in discussions at the General Assembly session in New York, which ran from September 19 to 25.
