TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to take part in a tripartite meeting with his counterparts from Iran and Russia.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, president Aliyev arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday morning and was officially received by Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Massoud Karbasian.

On November 1, Tehran will play host to the second trilateral summit of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.

“This would be the second summit. The first was held in Baku. We will hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said recently.

In August 2016, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian and Azerbaijani counterparts Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev held a key tripartite summit in Azerbaijan’s capital where they discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in the areas of commerce, energy, communications, transport and transit. They further exchanged views on environmental issues and the fight against terrorism.

During the next three-nation summit meeting, senior Iranian, Russian and Azeri officials will discuss regional developments and the battle against terrorism.

President Putin is also scheduled to arrive in Tehran on Wednesday.

On November 23, 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Iranian capital. During his trip, he met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei shortly after arrival in Tehran.
