Iranian Weightlifter Alihosseini Undergoes Knee Surgery

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian super heavyweight weightlifter Saeid Alihosseini underwent meniscus surgery on Sunday.

The weightlifter has undergone surgery for a tear in his knee.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Mohammad Razi.

Alihosseini is expected to be out for several weeks.

He claimed a silver medal at the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in early December.

The 29-year-old lifter was originally banned for life but successfully appealed and has trained at his father’s gym since 2011 when CAS reduced the suspension to eight years.

He intends to compete at the 2018 Asian Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
