Iranian, Turkish FMs Discuss Syria Sochi Conference

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey met in Tehran for talks on the bilateral, regional and international issues, including the results of a recent conference in Sochi on the settlement of crisis in Syria.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif for talks on Iran-Turkey ties as well as the most recent developments in the region.

They also talked about the results of a recent conference on the settlement of Syria crisis, which was held in the Russian city of Sochi in late January.

Zarif and Cavusoglu also explored avenues for the expansion of economic and cultural relations between Iran and Turkey.

Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts to boost bilateral trade since the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) that came into force in January 2016.

The two neighbors, together with Russia, have also played an active role in the Astana peace process to end a war that has gripped Syria since 2011.
