US Defeated in Face of Iran, Regional People: President Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted recent failures of the US government’s policies against the Islamic Republic and other regional nations and said the world is witnessing that Washington is becoming weaker and weaker.

Addressing a huge gathering of people who staged rallies in Tehran to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, President Rouhani said that over the past year, the US has been defeated in various battlefields.

He further pointed to Washington’s failure to spur the UN Security Council to act against Iran over the recent protests in the country and said, “The Americans sought to interfere in the internal affairs of our country.”

“However, our people rejected them (the Americans) and foiled their conspiracy through their unity and resistance,” Rouhani added, referring to demonstrations held across Iran to voice support for the Islamic Republic’s Establishment.

The US also attempted to act against the holy city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Palestinians by declaring the city capital of Israel but the world stood against the conspiracy, the president stated.

“We are witnessing that the region is becoming more stable and the US and Israel are getting weaker…,” he said.

US President Donald Trump officially declared the disputed city of al-Quds Israel's capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

In a speech at the White House on December 6, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The announcement was a major shift by Washington that overturns decades of US foreign policy.

Later in December, all members of the UN Security Council except the US, which used its veto, backed a UN resolution calling for the withdrawal of Donald Trump’s recognition of al-Quds as Israel’s capital.
