Peace in Afghanistan Prerequisite for Regional Security: Iranian Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi said the establishment of peace in war-ravaged Afghanistan could play a key role in enhancing peace and security in the region.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that peace in Afghanistan is a precondition for peace and security in the region,” General Shahsafi said on Friday.

He made the remark in a meeting with Naseer Khan Janjua, Pakistan’s national security advisor, on his ongoing official visit to Islamabad.

Stressing that Iran and Pakistan should further boost their mutual ties in all fields, the Iranian commander highlighted the importance of unity among Muslim nations at this juncture.

Khan Janjua, for his part, highlighted the historical, religious and cultural commonalities between the two countries and called for the expansion of Tehran-Islamabad ties in all arenas.

Referring to the current challenges facing the region and the world, he said mutual cooperation can help address the ongoing crises.

The Pakistani security adviser reiterated that Islamabad, without taking sides, has played a positive and balanced role in the region and the Muslim world.

Both Pakistan and Iran required deliberation and strategic patience to overcome the prevailing difficulties and to strengthen their bilateral relations, he added.
