Iran, Russia to Discuss Major Energy Projects at Next Joint Economic Commission: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said Tehran and Moscow are set to discuss financing of major transport and energy projects at the 14th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission meeting scheduled to be on March 5-6 in Moscow.

"The 14th meeting will focus on financing of major projects, development of cooperation in transport, development of electricity trade, and on easier terms for bilateral trade," the diplomat said on Saturday, the Tass news agency reported.

The two sides will discuss a power plant in Hormozgan and modernization of the Ramin power plant in Ahvaz, he added.

Other topics would include interfacing the two countries’ banking payment systems in 2018, and cooperation in pharmaceuticals, the ambassador said.

The 13th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission was held in Tehran in December 2016. It was chaired by Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak.

The two countries signed a series of agreements that included the construction of four units of thermal power plants in Iran’s southern city of Bandar Abbas.

The level of trade between the two countries in 2016 stood at below $2 billion. They have been trying to double this in the near future.
