Top General Hails Iran as Pakistan’s Permanent Ally


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa praised Iran as a lasting ally of his country, stressing the need for boosting joint cooperation to ensure regional security.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Islamabad on Tuesday, the top Pakistani general described Iran as a lasting ally of his country.

Establishment of regional security relies on direct cooperation among countries and their joint efforts, the general added.

For his part, Zarif called for the expansion of security cooperation for sustainable security along the common border.

Tehran and Islamabad should join hands to defeat the terrorist groups seeking insecurity of the common border, he added.

Zarif is in Pakistan for an official three-day visit. He will leave Islamabad for Karachi later today before returning home.

On Monday, the top Iranian diplomat held meetings with Pakistan’s prime minister, foreign minister, parliament speaker, and interior minister on cooperation in various fields, such as the energy industry, border security, as well as business and trade.
