Iranian Trio Seal Taekwondo Quota Places for YOG


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Three Iranian taekwondo athletes won medals at World Taekwondo's Qualification Tournament for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Five weight divisions were contested on day one of the event at La Salle Couverte Hammamet in Tunisia.

The top eight players in each class earned a quota place for the Youth Olympics in Argentina's capital, with Iran sealing three berths.

In the men's under 73kg division, Iran's Ali Eshkevarian lost to Egypt's Eyad Barakat in the final as Serbia's Dusan Bozanic and Armenia's Andranik Khachatryan collected bronze.

In the men's over73kg, Iran's Mohammad Khani and Canada's Ethan McClymont won bronze.

Abdelrahman Elsayed also won Egyptian gold, as he proved too strong for Chinese Taipei's Lee Meng-en.

In the women's under 63kg division, Iran's Yalda Valinejad and Italy's Assunta Cennamo won bronze.

Leslie Soltero was Mexico's champion, beating Serbia's Nadica Bozanic in the final.
