Tehran Research Reactor Modernized: Iran Nuclear Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said domestic experts have managed to renovate the Tehran Research Reactor.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Saturday, Salehi highlighted the efforts made to modernize the Tehran Research Reactor that is 40 years old.

“Over the past year, the reactor has been completely renovated through efforts made by Iranian researchers and youths,” he said, adding that today, a rejuvenated reactor is available for researchers.

In addition to the renovation of the reactor, a nuclear fuel test loop has been manufactured and installed for the first time to test the resilience of the nuclear fuels due to be used in power plants, Salehi went on to say.

Iran in recent years has made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment in the area of peaceful nuclear technology.

In December 2017, an exhibition of the country’s nuclear achievements was staged in the central city of Najafabad in Isfahan province.

The nuclear achievements showcased in the exhibition covered various areas such as nuclear enrichment, heavy water production, nuclear power plants, Arak research reactor, nuclear agriculture, nuclear medicine and health, sanitation, nuclear fuel and nuclear safety.
