Reports on Deployment of Russia's Strategic Aircraft to Iran Rejected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s military rejected reports by some media outlets that the Islamic Republic has allowed Moscow to station Russian “strategic aircraft” in its territory.

Iran and Russia are boosting their joint military cooperation to combat and uproot terrorism, an informed source at the headquarters of Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff told Tasnim on Saturday.

The source at the same time rejected media reports that Russia’s strategic aircraft have been deployed to the country’s territory.

It came after media sources said that Iran had allowed Moscow to deploy its “strategic aircraft” in a military base in Iran.

Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting Syrian government against foreign-backed militancy.

In August 2016, Iran let Russian fighter jets use its Nojeh military airbase for bombing positions of terrorist groups inside Syria.
