Moscow, Beijing to Obstruct US Attempts to Sabotage JCPOA: Russian FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he had agreed with his Chinese counterpart that Moscow and Beijing would try to block any US attempt to sabotage the Iran nuclear deal, a report said.

"We are against revising these agreements, we consider it very counterproductive to try to reduce to zero years of international work carried out via talks between the six major powers and Iran," the TASS news agency quoted Lavrov as saying after talks with Wang Yi, China's top diplomat, in Beijing.

"We will obstruct attempts to sabotage these agreements which were enshrined in a UN Security Council resolution," Lavrov added.

US President Donald Trump in January set a 120-day deadline for US lawmakers and European allies to “fix” his predecessor Barack Obama's main foreign policy achievement or face a US exit.

Since the historic deal was signed by Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) in Vienna in July 2015, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
