Iran World’s 16th Biggest Car Manufacturer: OICA


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's car output reached 1.515 million units in 2017, the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) reported.

The figure indicated an 18.2-percent rise year on year, according to the report, the Trend news agency reported.

The Islamic Republic was the world's 16th biggest car manufacturer in 2017. In terms of output growth rate, Iran stood at 9th place in the world.

The country manufactured 1.418 million passenger cars in 2017 compared to 1.07 million in the preceding year.

Iran’s commercial vehicles production in 2017 amounted to 96,846, registering a growth by 6.8 percent year-on-year,

During the 12-month period, 73.456 million of passenger cars as well as 23.846 million of commercial vehicles were manufactured by carmakers in the world. The world's vehicle production has increased by 2.4 percent year on year.

China was the biggest car manufacturer in the world with 29.015 million output in the 12-month period, followed by US (11.189 million), Japan (9.693 million), Germany (5.645 million), India (4.782 million) and South Korea (4.114 million).

Mexico with 4.068 million of vehicle production, Spain (2.848 million), Brazil (2.699 million) and France (2.227 million) took the next places among the top ten car manufacturers in the world.

Ukraine stood at the end of the list with 9,542 vehicles, however, the figure was 81.27 percent more year-on-year.

Finland witnessed the highest output growth rate among the car manufacturers in the world. The country manufactured 91,598 vehicles in 2017, 90.83 percent more compared to the preceding year.
