Meetings with Chinese, Russian FMs ‘Substantive’: Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described his recent meetings with his Chinese and Russian counterparts as “good and substantive”, saying that he is now heading to Brussels to determine how “P4+1” can guarantee Iran’s benefits under the JCPOA.

“Good and substantive meetings with counterparts in Beijing & Moscow; heading to meet with EU High Rep and E3 FMs in Brussels. Will soon determine how P4+1 can guarantee Iran’s benefits under the #JCPOA, and preserve this unique achievement of diplomacy,” Zarif said in a message posted on his official Twitter account on Monday.

Zarif flew to China on Sunday, before travelling to Moscow for talks with Russian officials.

The Iranian top diplomat will visit Brussels to attend a meeting with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and Britain, as well as EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, to discuss Washington’s recent withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

In a speech from the White House last week, US President Donald Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from 2015 agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, provided that they ensure full benefits for Iran.
