US Sanctions Malaysia-Based Agent for Iran's Mahan Air
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US Treasury Department said it had sanctioned a Malaysia-based sales agent for Iranian Airline Mahan Air.
"As a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of Mahan Travel and Tourism Sdn Bhd that are or come within US jurisdiction are blocked," the department said in a statement, according to Reuters on Monday.
Mahan Air is currently under US sanctions, but it is not sanctioned by the European Union and currently operates flights to Milan, Athens, the German cities of Dusseldorf and Munich, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and several other destinations in the Middle East and Asia.
The recent move came after US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was reached in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China - plus Germany.
Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.
