Syrian Troops Targeting Remaining Strongholds of Terrorists in Daraa

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian military continued its operations in southwest of Daraa province, inflicting heavy losses on the remnants of terrorists there.

Syrian warplanes on Monday carried out raids on terrorists’ gatherings in the villages of Tal al-Jomo’a, Tsil and Jilin in Daraa, killing and injuring dozens of the militants, SANA news agency reported.

The army also shelled their remaining strongholds in Yarmouk Basin Region located in southwest of Daraa near the occupied Golan Heights.

The report added that the strikes led to the destruction of fortified positions of the terrorists

Army units advancing from the direction of Tal al-Jabia are currently engaged in sporadic clashes with the terrorist groups who are desperately trying to maintain their positions and block the army’s advances using snipers, missiles and machine guns.

On July 6, the Syrian army established full control over the town of al-Naima on the eastern outskirts of Daraa city after rooting out the last hotbeds of terrorist groups there.

On July 12, the army raised the national flag over the southern city as a major counter-terrorism operation neared an end with foreign-backed militants leaving the region in negotiated surrender deals.

Daraa city was the birthplace of the sedition that began in March 2011 before morphing into a foreign-backed militancy that continues to this day.

Since June 19, the Syrian army has been conducting the operation in Daraa, which borders Jordan and the Israeli-occupied side of Syria’s Golan Heights.
