Iran’s Esteghlal Eyes Masoud Shojaei


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal football team is going to sign Iran national football team captain Masoud Shojaei.

Server Djeparov left Esteghlal to join Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu and the Blues are going to sign Shojaei as the Uzbek’s replacement.

Esteghlal, who was held to a goalless draw by Paykan in Iran Professional League on Friday, will have to face Qatar’s Al Sadd in AFC Champions League quarters next month.

Shojaei has most recently played for AEK Athens but he will leave the Greek team.

The 34-year-oldmidfielder has been also linked with Cypriot Apollon Smyrnis and Indian club Goa.

Shojae is the only Iranian player who represented his country in three World Cups.

He has also played for Iran in three Asian Cups.

Shojaei played 68 minutes in the match against Morocco in the 2018 World Cup but was an unused substitute in two matches against Spain and Portugal.
