Syrians Celebrate Army Victory, Retaking Quneitra from Militants (+Photos)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Syrian people and army troops celebrated recapture of symbolic southern town near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Syrian officials on Friday raised the national flag in Al-Tahrir square and played the national anthem to mark the victory over the terrorists that controlled the city for more than four years.

A picture of the Syrian President President Bashar Assad was hoisted on a partially destroyed monument in central Quneitra, as hundreds attended flag-raising ceremony from nearby villages, while dancing, cheering alongside the government forces.

For more than four, the terrorist groups have had control over the town as well as large parts of southwestern Syria, forcing a UN peacekeeping force there to evacuate.

The celebrations in Quneitra took place as Syrian army soldiers finalized their deployment to restore control over the area for the first time since 2014.
