Yemeni Forces Hit Saudi Frigate in Red Sea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Forces from Yemen’s Army and Popular Committees launched an attack on a military vessel of Saudi Arabia’s navy near the kingdom’s southwestern coasts.

According to Yemen’s al-Masirah TV, the Yemeni forces have attacked the Saudi frigate in Red Sea waters off the coasts of Jizan, inflicting casualties on invaders.

A source in Yemen’s Navy said Saudi Arabia has transferred the injured from the frigate to hospitals in Jizan.

The source described the strike as a retaliatory attack in response to the killing of Yemeni fishermen in a recent Saudi-led air raid on fishing boats near the island of Akban in Yemen’s western province of Hudaydah.

Head of Yemen’s General Authority for Fisheries Abdul Qader al-Wadai said on Friday that dozens of fishermen were aboard three boats near the island of Akban when the Saudi-led coalition launched an aerial attack on them and killed 19.

People of Yemen have been under massive attacks by the Saudi-led coalition for nearly three years. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
