1000km of Gas Pipelines to Be Added to Iran’s National Grid: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The managing director of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) said the company plans to construct new gas pipelines with a total length of 1,000 kilometers and link them to the national grid by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2019).

In remarks released on Sunday, Hassan Montazer Torbati pointed to the projects completed by the IGEDC and said over the past year, one to five projects in the Iranian gas industry have been put into operation on a monthly basis.

Last year, a total of 17 projects were completed by the IGEDC and handed over to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), he added.

The official went on to say that one of the IGEDC’s main goals is to complete a project to construct more than 1,000km of gas pipelines and linking them to the national grid by the end of the current year.

According to Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Iran is on pace to boost gas production to one billion cubic meters a day by March 2019, roughly the same time that all phases of the South Pars gas field in southern Iran are planned to be up and running.

The gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
