Iran to Run White Hat Hacker Competition

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian judicial official recommended all Iranian organizations to assess the security of their websites with the assistance of local white hat hackers, who he said can enter a competition under the auspices of a university in Tehran.

Speaking at a televised program on Friday, the director of the Judiciary’s Statistics and Information Technology Center said the country has launched a website to attract white hat hackers and use their skills to improve the security of Internet websites.

He said all company managers can take advantage of the local white hat hackers to evaluate the security of their websites and detect security bugs.

“The white hat (hackers) system allows for the detection and removal of vulnerability of the systems at a minimum cost,” the official said.

All talented computer specialists can register in the kolahsefid.org website to take part in a hack attack competition and detect the security bugs of certain websites, he said, adding that winners of the competition, to be judged by a panel from Amirkabir University of Technology, will be awarded.

White hat hackers use their skills to improve cyber-security by exposing vulnerabilities of websites and computer systems before malicious hackers –aka black hat hackers- can detect and exploit them.
