11 Terror Cells Identified in Iran during Arbaeen Season: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi said the country's security forces managed to identify 11 terrorist teams during the Arbaeen season.

Addressing a conference on civil defense in Tehran on Monday, Alawi highlighted the security situation in the country and said today, unmatched security prevails in Iran.

Over the past months, the Iranian intelligence forces have smashed 30 terrorist cells, he said, adding that during the Arbaeen season, the forces also identified and hit 11 terrorist teams in various cities of the country.

The intelligence minister went on to say that the Islamic Republic has been able to foil 95 percent of the enemy plots against the country.

In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

However, Iran is considered by many experts as the “island of stability” in a region which faces many security challenges.

In August 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the strong security in Iran despite crises and insecurity in the region.

“Thank God and through the appreciated efforts and endeavors of the military and security forces, the country enjoys a strong security shield while regional countries are filled with incidents and insecurity,” the Leader said.
