Iran’s Intelligence Minister Meets with Azeri Leader

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in a visit to Baku.

The top Iranian intelligence official had talks with Aliyev during a trip to the Republic of Azerbaijan on Friday.

In the gathering, the Azeri leader hailed the growing ties between Tehran and Baku, saying reciprocal visits by the presidents and senior officials would play an important role in strengthening ties between the two neighbors.

Pointing to the historical commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan, Aliyev said the two “friendly and brotherly” nations enjoy close ties and the documents signed by the two sides are being implemented successfully.

He also expressed hope that the Iranian intelligence minister’s trip would help broaden relations between the two neighbors.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.

Aliyev has paid several official visits to Tehran over the past few years.

In one of the trips in 2016, the two sides signed eleven memorandums of understanding and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
