US Dare Not Even Speak of Military Option against Iran: IRGC Commander
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari praised Iran’s defense might and said the Islamic Republic has become so powerful that the US administration dare not even speak of the military option against Iran.
“We have distanced ourselves from security threats for years and no superpower even dreams about invasion (on Iran),” Major General Jafari said in a speech on Thursday night.
“They (superpowers) are extremely afraid of clashing with Iran, and they are aware of its consequences and the braveries of our fighters and martyrs,” he added.
“Comparing the US’ current power to 40 years ago, we see that as Leader of the Islamic Revolution has said, the US power is declining and today they admit their weakness against Iran,” the commander noted.
Major General Jafari went on to say that the Iranian power has reached a level that the US even dare not even speak of the military option against the country.
The remarks came as tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since US President Donald Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
US officials have repeatedly claimed that they aim to cut Iran’s oil exports to zero.
Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.
He said the US policy is to levy “maximum economic pressure” on the country.
The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect on November 4.
