Spokesmen Hits Back at US’s Pompeo over Anti-Iran Remarks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi vehemently rejected US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent allegations against the Islamic republic and said Washington is seeking to sow discord and create new chaos in the region.
“The United States and particularly, its current radical regime, due to its old hostility to the Iranian nation and its opposition to all measures adopted by the previous (US) administration…, has chosen a path in which there is no interest for the US,” Qassemi said in a statement on Friday.
“Iran has always demonstrated that it demands peaceful coexistence with its neighbors, but US behavior shows that it is seeking to sow discord and create new chaos in the region,” he added.
The spokesman further stressed the need for all regional nations to maintain their vigilance against “the deception and divisive policies” of the US officials.
At a brief news conference with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Pompeo urged the countries of the region to recognize and fight back against “Iranian aggression”. He termed Iran “greatest threat of all in the Middle East.”
In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
