Students Attend Pro-Venezuela Gathering in Tehran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A group of Iranian students held a meeting at Venezuela’s embassy in Tehran on Monday to express solidarity with Nicolas Maduro’s legitimate government against a US-backed insurrection.
The Iranian university students lambasted US interference in the Latin America nation and the attempts to overthrow President Maduro’s government.
A professor of University of Tehran gave an address to the gathering, explicating the reasons behind Iran’s support for Venezuela’s legitimate government.
A representative of the students also took the podium to denounce the US interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs and highlight Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s comments about the Latin American nation during a meeting with its late president, Hugo Chavez, back in 2009.
Venezuela has plunged into political crisis after Juan Guaido, the leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, declared himself interim president last week.
Shortly after Guaido took an oath swearing himself in before his supporters, US President Donald Trump recognized him as the country's leader. In response, Maduro broke off diplomatic ties with the US and gave American diplomats 72 hours to get out of his country.
