Iran Not Relying on Europe in Economic Issues: Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country is not pinning hopes on Europe to counter the US economic pressures.

Addressing a parliamentary session on Monday, Zarif underlined that Iran does not pin its hopes on Europe when it comes to economic issues.

However, highlighting Iran’s efforts to isolate the US and foil its plots against the country, Zarif said Europe plays an effective role in this endeavor.

The foreign minister said Iran has made every effort to thwart the American and Israeli plots to mount pressure on Tehran over the past two years.

“Our efforts have left the US unsuccessful (in harming Iran) four times at the (UN) Security Council,” Zarif added, expressing hope that Washington’s anti-Iran attempts would once again get nowhere in an upcoming gathering it is going to hold in Poland in February.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that the Warsaw meeting would “focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security here in this region, and that includes an important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence.”

Zarif has denounced the planned event in Poland as a “desperate anti-Iran circus.”
