Iran Urges Closer Cooperation with INCB in Fighting Illicit Drugs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Vienna-based international organizations, Kazem Gharibabadi, highlighted the importance of closer cooperation with the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

Speaking at a meeting with President of the INCB Viroj Sumyai in Vienna, Gharibabadi stressed the need for closer cooperation between the two sides.

Expressing Iran’s support for the INCB, Gharibabadi expressed concern over illegal measures taken by some countries in legalizing some drugs that are being controlled by the INCB, IRNA reported.

During the meeting, both sides also highlighted boosting exchange of experiences and cooperation, especially in countering precursor and industrial drugs production and trafficking.

The International Narcotics Control Board is the independent and quasi-judicial control organ for the implementation of the United Nations drug conventions. It plays an important role in monitoring enforcement of restrictions on narcotics and psychotropics and in deciding which precursors should be regulated.
