Iran Loses to India at Hero Gold Cup


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s women’s football team was defeated against host India at Hero Gold Cup on Saturday.

Anju Tamang was India’s match-winner, scoring in the 48th minute as the South Asian team made it five wins in a row having won their last four friendlies against Hong Kong and Indonesia respectively.

Earlier in the day, Myanmar had defeated Nepal 3-0.

Up next for Iran is Myanmar on Monday while India will play Nepal.

Myanmar is the highest ranked team in the tournament with a FIFA ranking of 44, while Iran is ranked 60th and India is 62. Nepal is the lowest-ranked team.

Hero Gold Cup concludes on Friday with the top two teams squaring off after the round robin in the final.
