17 Killed in Delhi's Karol Bagh Hotel Fire as Two Jump off Building (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - 17 people killed including a woman and a child and four injured in a hotel fire in Karol Bagh area of India’s Delhi on early Tuesday morning, as two jumped off the building in a bid to save themselves from the blaze.

Both the persons were hotel staff members and succumbed to their injuries, confirmed officials. The fire broke out in Hotel Arpit Palace in central Delhi's Karol Bagh at around 4.30am.

A video of the incident showed two people jumping from the fourth floor of the burning building. At least 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire has been doused, the fire department said, Times of India reported.

"The cause of the fire is yet to be investigated. 30 fire tenders had been rushed to the spot. The rescue operation is over. There was wooden panelling on the corridor because of which people could not use the corridors to escape," a fire official was quoted by ANI as saying.

"The fire has been doused. We have to look for bodies, if any, inside the hotel. Those injured have been sent to hospital," deputy chief fire officer Sunil Choudhary said.
