Iran’s Zob Ahan Advances to 2019 AFC Champions League Playoffs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Zob Ahan football club of Iran claimed a place in the 2019 AFC Champions League playoffs after defeating Kuwait SC 1-0 after extra-time in their Preliminary Stage 2 tie at the Foolad Shahr Stadium in Isfahan on Tuesday.

Osaguona Christian struck in the extra-time to take Zob Ahan into next week's playoffs, where the Iranian football team will face Al Gharafa of Qatar.

Zob Ahan, the 2010 AFC Champions League runner-up, took early control of the match as Kuwait SC was forced to rely on counter attacks.

Alireza Mansourian’s side tested Kuwait SC goalkeeper Hameed Al Qallaf on several occasions in the first half but the goalie stayed alert between the sticks.

Having impressed in their 3-2 win over Jordan’s Al Wehdat in the Preliminary Stage 1 tie last week, Kuwait SC started the second half with purpose.

There was, however, to be no joy for Kuwait SC as Christian struck in the 110th minute to take his team through.
