Ayatollah Khamenei Urges Rebuilding in Iran’s Flood-Stricken Areas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reminded the Iranian officials that the main task must be to repair the damages caused by recent floods across the country.

Ayatollah Khamenei on Wednesday delivered a speech to a gathering of Iranian authorities, ambassadors of Muslim nations and ordinary people on the occasion of Eid al-Mab’ath, the anniversary of the appointment of Muhammad (PBUH) to prophethood through divine order.

In the address in Tehran, the Leader highlighted the massive work that remains to be done to relieve the pains of people affected by floods across the country, emphasizing that the main tasks, namely repairing the damages and compensating for the losses, must be carried out from now on.

Ayatollah Khamenei also lauded the public efforts and the mobilization morale among people for providing relief aid in the wake of the floods, saying Iranians tremendously rushed to help the flood victims and helped the officials.

Ayatollah Khamenei also called on people to keep working in cooperation with the officials in the flood-hit areas.

Record spring rainfall that has battered Iran in recent days has caused serious flooding in many areas, mainly the provinces of Golestan, Lorestan, Khuzestan, Fars and Ilam, forcing thousands to leave their homes.

At least 57 people have been killed as a result of the flooding across Iran. The southern city of Shiraz, the capital of Fars province, with 19 deaths that occurred during last week’s floods accounts for the highest number of casualties.

Elsewhere in the Wednesday’s meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to Islam’s approach towards war and confrontation, saying while the tyrannical powers wage wars to propagate corruption and continue domination, fighting against such attitude is deemed commendable.

The Leader also slammed the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression over the past decades as a brazen example of the tyrannical powers’ belligerent attitude, and hailed the actions by Palestinian fighters and Lebanese Hezbollah as well as the Iranian defense in 8 years of war in the 1980s as the epitome of fighting in the path of God.

Ayatollah Khamenei further dismissed the notion that Iran should not create enemies for itself, stressing that the US and “its servants such as Al Saud” are opposed to the core values of monotheistic movements.

“Should the Iranian nation keep to its path in the same way that it has been going ahead, it will definitely overcome the enemies, namely the US and its allies, and emerge victorious,” the Leader concluded.
