ACL Matchday 3: Iran’s Zob Ahan Defeats Al Wasl of UAE

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Zob Ahan of Iran defeated Al Wasl of the UAE 3-1 in Matchday Three of the AFC Champions League on Monday.

Caio Canedo, captaining the side in the absence of Fabio de Lima, broke the deadlock at the quarter-hour mark. The Brazilian received Ali Saleh’s cross from the left wing, before firing on the turn into the bottom corner to fire Al Wasl in front.

Christian Osaguona leveled the score with a diving header in the 16th minute.

Zob Ahan striker Amir Arsalan Motahari was on target in the 35th minute.

Hamid Bouhamdan sealed the victory for the visiting team with a powerful strike from outside the box into the bottom corner in the injury time.

Ali Mansourian’s side, who moved to seven points, will welcome Al Wasl to Isfahan for the reverse fixture on April 23. A repeat of Monday’s win would put the Iranian team within touching distance of sealing a place in the Round of 16.
