Labeling IRGC as Terrorist Sign of US Regime’s Idiocy: Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani condemned the US administration’s move to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group” as a sign of “idiocy” of the Washington government.

“This behavior of the US regime, which has shamelessly declared the IRGC as a terrorist group these days, reflects the depth of the hostility, idiocy and ignorance of this regime,” Larijani said, addressing an open session of the parliament on Tuesday.

“Who is unaware that the IRGC has dealt the most blows to dangerous terrorism in the region?” he asked, adding that the elite force has continuously sided with the nation and fought against terrorist groups backed by major world powers since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Over the last years, as terrorists created by the powers had set fire to the region, it was the IRGC that stood up against them and “broke their backs”, Larijani said.

The IRGC’s campaign against terrorism is not something hidden from the eyes of nations around the world, the parliament speaker went on to say.

The remarks came after the Trump administration on Monday labeled IRGC as a “terrorist group” at the behest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israelis head to the polls on Tuesday to elect the 120 members of the 21st Knesset (parliament). On the eve of the vote, Netanyahu took credit for Trump’s decision to blacklist IRGC.

“Thank you, my dear friend, President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew, “for answering another one of my important requests.”

On Monday, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in turn designated US forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.
